The Basics
How Kho Kho Is Played

The Court
Played on a rectangular court split by a central lane with two poles at either end — no equipment beyond that needed, which is part of why it's so accessible.
Chasers & Defenders
One team of nine chasers sits along the central lane; the other team's defenders try to survive on court for as long as possible without being touched.
The 'Kho'
A seated chaser can tag a teammate — calling out "Kho!" — to instantly swap who's actively chasing, changing direction without losing momentum.
Scoring
Points come from tagging out every defender before time runs out, or from how long defenders survive if the chasing team can't clear the court.

2022
Federation founded
Kho Kho Uganda's predecessor federation was established, laying the groundwork for organised competition nationwide.
2025
World Cup bronze
Uganda's women's team became the country's first ever Kho Kho side at a World Cup, taking bronze in New Delhi.
2026
Rebrand to Kho Kho Uganda
All 87 districts gathered at the inaugural AGM, adopting a new crest and a UGX 1.9 billion development budget.
2026
East Africa Championship
Uganda hosts Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan for the first ever regional championship.
