Our Story
From a grassroots idea to Uganda's official national Kho Kho association.
Kho Kho Uganda was founded in 2022 to organise, govern and grow the sport of Kho Kho nationwide — from school playgrounds to the international stage.
In May 2026, the association held its historic inaugural Annual General Assembly at Kyambogo University, bringing together delegates from all 87 districts of Uganda. The assembly rebranded the organisation from "Uganda Kho Kho Federation" to "Kho Kho Uganda", adopted a new official logo, and approved an annual budget of UGX 1.906 billion to fund national leagues, coaching programmes, and Uganda's push toward the Commonwealth Kho Kho Championship and the inaugural East Africa Kho Kho Championship.
Just a year earlier, Uganda's women's national team had already put the country on the world Kho Kho map — winning bronze at the sport's first ever World Cup in New Delhi, India, beating England and Australia in the group stage before falling to Nepal in the semi-final.
Today, Kho Kho Uganda runs capacity-building programmes across the country, targeting 5,000 trained coaches within three years, with clinics already delivered in Wakiso, Kampala, Mpigi, Mukono, Masaka and Iganga.
